Artist in residence at Ademruimte
In 2020 Julie de Ruijter was Artist in Residence at Ademruimte during a period of one year. Stichting Ademruimte is an innovative art platform and place for contemplation through interactive biofeedback art.
Waaierwereld
In a creative collaboration with Stichting Ademruimte, Julie created an immersive, ritualistic space that harmonizes with one’s breath. This space, named ‘Waaierwereld’ (Fan World), uses biofeedback technology originally designed for healthcare applications. The ‘Waaierwereld’ transforms breath into interactive art – the opening and closing of the fans mimicking the rhythm of inhalation and exhalation. This intimate connection between breath and environment creates an animated world of fans that transforms with your breathing rhythm and state of being.
Woven Rhythms
Emerging from the same period of artistic residency is a project named Woven Rhythms. Julie, collaborating with Generative artist Beer van Geer, embarked on a journey to convert her experimental techniques and ink drawings into generative textile prints, with digitally recorded heart rate data serving as the raw material. The outcome of this exploration has yielded a novel technique, translating patterns within heartbeats into intricate and unique textile prints.
We wish to express our deep gratitude towards the Prins Bernhard Culture Fund and the Gemeente den Haag for their financial support, their contributions were vital to the successful fruition of these projects.
